Advising
Departmentally Assigned Masters Students
General Info About My Carefree Advising:
Ultimately, your success is completely up to you. I finished my degrees long ago and had to do everything myself back then as well. Most of you know what classes you want to take and what you need to do to graduate, so just send me an email letting me know that you have it handled, and I will clear your registration flags. Be sure to include your 800 number and don’t expect quick turnaround for last minute clearance—especially if I am on travel. Normally I handle these within 48 hours.
Please make sure you consult the CS Masters Guidelines for completion requirements every semester, and be advised that not every class is taught every semester (there is a schedule)! Do not think that I have any idea what is taught each semester or any given year—unless it is in the Games Program, I do not keep up with this at all. However, you should because it will impact your ability to complete classes.
If you would like to talk you are welcome to stop by during academic year (Late-August to Early-May) teaching office hours (posted here) or make an appointment (by email).
Plan for graduation in advance and be aware of the paperwork dates. These are your responsibility. I have never been a student at UNC Charlotte, and the system changes every few years, so I do not keep up with it, but it is very important to you so make sure you do!
When sending me email please keep it succinct and uncomplicated in order to get a quick response—email I have to ponder over gets accidentally lost somehow. Also, I do not answer email on the weekends or outside of 8a-5p M-F.
I am here to help during the academic year, but I will not hold your hand and walk you through the process. As with most of life, navigating the system by yourself is one of the most important skills you can learn.
